Devon and I share our birthday month with Jane Austen. For my birthday I took Teddy out to a new Mexican restaurant for lunch and discovered that he had never seen a ketchup packet before. He is a wonderful lunch date, he keeps asking when we will return.
Daniel got me some beautiful flowers. This year, I had planned to do a mock blacktie mousse cake, but I was sick and didn't feel up to it. Instead, I made a strawberry shortcake as it is much easier to make. We ate it while watching The Muppets Christmas Carol.
Devon asked for a yellow cake with chocolate buttercream. He also wanted to go to The Olive Garden for dinner. So that's what we did.
I can't understand how I have such children; they all declared themselves stuffed and had no room for dessert at all! Such lightweights! We had to wait for the following day to eat cake. I consoled myself in the meantime by celebrating Jane Austen's 250th birthday with the other members of the Jane Austen Society at the Wandering Vine, which is inside a castle! Daniel took me there for our anniversary. They do Teas now. So we had a lovely tea with an interesting presentation by Dr. Angela Rabin about Christmas Puddings.
We each got a tea service with this fun timer for the perfect cup. I had peppermint.
A very blurry selfie. You are welcome.
Everything was delicious; our only complaint was a lack of butter or cream for the scones. They were a savory, pepper scone, but a little butter would not go amiss.
It was wonderful and I do hope it will become a tradition. Finally to Devon's cake!
He loves this blanket my parents got him. He declared it gives him the power to turn anyone thirteen just by covering them with it! He has been a complete menace, trapping unsuspecting victims and aging them accordingly.
Happy birthday Devon!
