May is my busiest month. So many things happen back to back! So, of course, we started with May the Fourth! Or Star Wars day. Since it was on Sunday and a fast Sunday to boot, it was a little different this year. Our ward was doing a picnic fireside out at Adam-ondi-Ahman, so we came home from church and made a ton of sandwiches, and then Lizzy, Daniel, and I went to Lizzy's awards ceremony. She was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. I accidentally wore their colors, so that was fun!
We returned home to find that the picnic had been cancelled, but since we had promised the kids a picnic, a picnic we would have! We chose a park and headed there. The kids played while we ate. I heard several kids state that we should do this more often. So I guess it was a success. We had Sarlacc cake at home afterward.
This year, I forgot to pick up gingersnaps for the sand, but I had some nilla wafers, and they worked just as well, if a tad lighter in color. I tried the crown braid this year instead of the space buns. I also finally got a calling: I'm teaching Charles' Sunday school class. I was supposed to teach, but they had not informed the teacher, being released, that she was released, so she taught instead. I felt bad since she was sideblinded and a little hurt at being released. She just had a baby and had had some health problems, but she really injoyed the class so she was bummed at being let go. The funny thing is the teacher staying will be out of commission for the next 2 months with a surgery and other health issues. So they really should have released her, but I don't make these decisions. Luckily, Daniel is available for most Sundays to step in and co-teach with me.
On to Cinco de Mayo!
I put on some music and we had a little dance party while cleaning up dinner.
On to the Main Event! The Piñata! This year's piñata was made by Devon in his Spanish club. It's a cat.
Emily put the remains of the piñata on her head, giving us this creepy shot!
It was the circus skills show too, so we headed to the best show in town.
It was fun, but gave Devon some bad flashbacks of when he sprained his wrist falling from a giraffe unicycle. This year's team had a bunch of dancers in it, so they included some dance in the show to highlight them. It was a great performance.
That was just the first week, I have so much more, but this post is getting long so I'll end it here.
