January Ends

Devon made a paper mache pumpkin in class and decided to turn it into a hat.
I had to take the kids to Vancouver for their dental appointment. We picked up donuts on the way home.

I like Adventure Dental, but I don't like the drive. It takes all day and as predicted the kids all need work done. So we will have many more trips in the coming months.

Henry made a parking garage, each level had a car in it. I finally took Teddy to the local Mom's group. It was nice, but it goes a little long for Teddy. It's right in his naptime.

I got the decorations for Christmas put away and set up for Valentine's. Teddy loves playing with the decorations. I got my Cricut to work finally and made some heart garlands to decorate the hall. It only took me 5 tries and I didn't even cry this time! Machines don't like me.

Teddy was outraged I guess. He was really trying to dust and knocked down my frame. Luckily I had my pearls to clutch!
Charles is learning about ancient Egypt and had to make his own sarcophicous for an assignment.
The library had a slime-making day so we made some slime. Poor Teddy wasn't feeling to well and ended up throwing up. It was a messy activity.

Henry randomly decided to play Weeping Angels on Sunday and he got really close to sending me back in time. It's so hard not to blink!
We took Lizzy up to Yacama for an asthma test. She got to sit in the glass chamber!

We won't get the results for a few weeks, but at least it's done.

Projects

So I had been put in as the Friend's of the Goldendale Library secretary and that has been challenging, but fun. We are attached to the Fort Vancouver Regional Library system so headquarters are 2 hours away. It's great for lending a large selection of materials, but not so great for end-of-the-year meetings. And nearly everyone out here refuses to drive at night. So it was decided that we would have our own celebration with the Library department heads zooming in. Our fearless leader was bemoaning the fact that we didn't get to receive any gifts or anything for our meeting. (I guess that's a big part of the regional meeting.) So I offered to make a gift. This was 2 days before the meeting was to occur. I ran down to The Dalles and picked up some materials from the Dollar store. After some brainstorming this is what I came up with:

Each bag had a gold star on the outside because in our meeting we joked about having a gold star would be enough. When I was in the store I found these star ornaments and I just knew I had to include them. Each book was a little different, but they all had the same thing inside, which I printed and put on the ribbon. They were well received and I felt it wasn't too shabby for a last-minute appreciation gift.

In January I had another LARP session. This was a regency murder mystery. I was the murderer! I didn't find that out til the end, it was so funny.

Here my victim has succumbed to the poison placed in her tea. We are all suitably shocked!

It was ever so much fun. We decided that we should mix a few of these in our rotation as they are shorter and easier for more people to join. We are going to have an informal meet-up on Sunday to discuss our future collaborations and get to know each other better since we usually meet in character.

Dia De Los Reys

I love living where there is a large enough Hispanic population that I can buy my Rincon or King's cake. I add the Spanish twist of a cream filling. This year Daniel found the baby Jesus.

Such a happy winner.

Challengers?

In their stockings, the kids each got a marble set. So we had a marble tournament. It was fun teaching them about how to play and a little of the history.

Emily made some armor to defend the city!

Wrestling Mania

Lizzy had another home game so we all went to support her.

Another kid let them color in their book.
She won her bout!

New Years and Beyond

Last year I had the idea of doing the traditional Christmas crackers for New Year's. It was dicey for a bit since I had trouble finding them, but I ordered some and they arrived on time. After dinner, we pulled the crackers to see what everyone got. It's fun and the kids enjoy it. Teddy was living his best life! Lizzy's friend Hunter bought this giant dino for her and Teddy was having a blast with it.

Cheers! Here's to New adventures!

Christmas

Christmas was more subdued this year. We were all in and out of illness all break. We did get to go caroling around the neighborhood one night, so that was nice. We plated up 12 sets of goodies and loaded them on our sled. We got to more neighbors this year and that was fun. One was so surprised. We caught her just as she was coming home and she asked what we were doing. We replied that we were caroling and burst into song. She exclaimed, "Oh, you are caroling!" I love it when we make people smile. We decorated ugly sweaters this year.

I finally got on the matching pj bandwagon. Getting a decent picture proved too much for my skills.

I love the quiet of Christmas eve. It is so soothing, the quiet anticipation. We don't put any presents out until Christmas eve after the kids go to bed. I love having this moment to reflect on each member of my family and what a year it has been. The words of Silent Night never sounds as true to me as when I am alone in the soft glow of the tree on Christmas eve.

As Christmas was on a Sunday we were asked to sing in sacrament meeting. We had practiced all month, but we had some snowfall and really icy roads so church was canceled. We spent a fun day at home, celebrating the Savior's birthday.

The unwrapping!

Our fancy dinner!

It was a nice Christmas, I hope you had a good one as well!

Evel Knievel
