Visitors

Charly was able to have her stepchildren for a day, so they asked if they could stay with us. It was Austin's birthday, and Charly wanted to make a cake with the boys for him. Austin's favorite flavors are chocolate and peanut butter, and he likes ice cream cakes, so I suggested we make one. Charly was unsure about the ice cream, but was game. I found a peanut butter-packed ice cream and shaped it for a 9x13 pan and set it in the freezer.

They arrived the next afternoon, and while Austin went out to shop, we set to work making a chocolate cake. The boys liked helping for a bit as little kids are wont to be. They really liked tasting the frosting. While we waited for the cake to cool, Charly, Brandy, and I had some raspberries with the leftover ganache. They were very good!

Austin liked it, so I'm calling it a success!

Here's a picture of the layers: chocolate cake, peanut butter ice cream, peanut butter buttercream frosting, and chocolate ganache on top. It was divine, but too peanut buttery for some of my kids. You can't please everyone.
