Lizzy Turns 14!

Lizzy had her 14th birthday! Gah! Shes' so old!

Lizzy requested a new car blanket since the old one was a little small for her. She picked out the fabric, you can't tell from the photos, but there are bees and honeycomb all over one side. It's super soft.

Such a goofball!

Grandma and Papa got her Anne of Green Gables Manga style. She was excited to read it.

Also, she got Toblerone, because it's one of her favorites.
She asked for her traditional grasshopper pie.

Happy birthday Lizzy!

Summer Fun

The library has these take-home kits that they put together every few weeks or so, this one was to build a beard.

I got a splash pad and it sort of worked.

Lizzy's class did rope tieing

We went to the Bickelton Rodeo. I had wanted to go last year,  but I was still healing from Teddy's birth so we missed it. I thought it was only half an hour away, but it was closer to an hour. The poor kids. They have a Carousel Museum with a carousel from Portland that was built sometime between 1890-1907. They bring it out for the rodeo and it's like fifty cents a ride. It was a big hit with my crew.

I didn't know where to pay for the rodeo, so we all just went in and I got tagged by the guy sitting on the ramp asking for tickets. So Emily and I went out and bought the tickets and then found everyone.
They had wild cow milking, but no one could do it. None of the cowboys seemed to have much luck, even roping of the cows was disappointing. It's an early rodeo, and not too big, but it was a shame that the cowboys didn't get anything.
One booth gave the kids all stuffed animals.
Back to the carousel!

We visited the bookmobile before we left, and discovered this old cabin too.

Ag Day

Living in the country has some perks, one is a robust FFA program. Every year they put on a free family event called Ag Day. They have games and a petting zoo and food and demonstrations. It's a mini fair. Lizzy participated and Daniel and I brought the two youngest boys to check it out. Henry loved all the tractors.

This was a timed maze and you had to identify a flower at the end and then run back. Henry had trouble with the colors so it took him a while to finish, he ran it several times though.

Lizzy's booth was making butter and goat masks.
This was a demonstration of the layers of soil using food items, build your own dirt cake!

The saddle kept wanting to slide forward if you were really rocking.

Milking the cow.
We ran into Devon when his class came to visit.

It was a fun day, later Charles and Lizzy went to Yakama to hear Elder David A Bednar speak. Parents were not invited, so I'm not sure what he said. The kids didn't take good notes because Elder Bednar told everyone not to take notes. Oh well, I hope they enjoyed it.

Evel Knievel

Daniel told me that there was an Evel Knievel  Museum  in  Topeka, KS, but it was being relocated to Las Vegas in a month. I had to go ...
